The farm is the result of careful observation

The Cabiokid permaculture farm is divided into 5 zones. These zones specify the degree of human interaction with the natural environment from the highest intensity (zone 0-1) to the lowest (zone 5). The development site is designed using natural principles by which edges symbolize the exchange and productive use of energies between different zones. Energy and the presence thereof is essential to any productive system.

training center

Cabiokid has been designed into an area that positively traps the different energies passing through its landscape. Natural patterns are used to maximize the potential of the site. The permaculture farm is the result of careful observation and sound connections within the natural world. Water bodies have been designed throughout the area and different eco-systems were introduced so as to provide many habitats and to increase life in and around the farm.

The farm’s learning concept is based on the production cycle and work is needed at all times on the grounds. Everyone will be able to identify his or her interest while being trained in the holistic aspect of farming and sustainable livelihood.

COMMUNING WITH NATURE

Cabiokid boasts of a training center, which is near the center of the farm and strategically located between the vegetable gardens and the rice lands. It serves as training facility, sleeping area, storage room, work area, catchment site for rainwater and production site for organic fertilizers to be used in the field.

Near the entrance of the farm stands a bamboo house that provides shower facilities, a kitchen and an open dining place. The house has been constructed using indigenous building materials and practices. An in-house library offers reading materials related to sustainable development. The upper floors function as extra sleeping areas or space for small group sessions. All toilets at the facilities are compost toilets that provide much needed organic matter for the farm. All waste water coming from toilets and washing areas is treated and recycled near or around the facilities.

Recently, another multi-functional building has been constructed over the water to serve as dinin area and display center of locally produced products.

Other facilities, like dormitories, grain storage, workshops and compost spots will be added in the coming years. A workshop center, which will soon be constructed , will use bamboo and other natural materials harvested at the farm.

The Cabiokid gardens are continuously being upgraded and planted with a variety of edible and usefull plant species for humans and animals alike.
